Colorado Trail Day 16: A Return to the Colorado Trail

  • Start:  Monarch Pass (CW Mile 76.7)
  • End: Windy Peak area (Mile 272.7)
  • Miles hiked: 17 miles
  • Weather: Cool temps with dark clouds and lots of rain beginning at 5 pm
  • Elevation:  11,930′ (high point); 10,441 (low point)

Back on trail by 8:30 am thanks to (another) ride from Thigh High
So many mountain bikers zooming up behind me after Monarch Pass
Where the Collegiate West and Collegiate East meet
More mountain bikers — I stepped off the trail for 27 cyclists in the first 5 miles of the day!!

Bumping into Bee – a NOBO CDT section hiker from the Eugene area too!
The last of the clear blue skies for today
Foreshadowing of the cows to come
Lots of cows intensely watching my every move!
Afternoon clouds come rolling in with rain in the distance
Stopping at the piped spring with my fellow hikers to get water
Time to find somewhere to pitch my tent before the heavy rain
