July 26, 2024

  • Start: Guernsey Creek (Mile 73.7)
  • End: Swan River (Mile 89.4)
  • Miles hiked: 15.8
  • Weather: Sunny day with a little bit of graupel (frozen snow) after lunch
  • Elevation:  11,875′ (high point); 9,915′ (low point)

The overnight rain left the trail looking (and smelling) so clean.
The tell-tale signs of an ultramarathon. These race markers were for the Summit 200 (a 200-mile loop around Summit County, CO where the lowest elevation on the course is 9,000′ elevation.!!)
Views of Mt. Guyot
Still a bit of snow clinging to the north side of these peaks.
Getting passed by a trail runner
Joining up with the CDT (Continental Divide Trail)
Hiking with Sing Song – who I met on day 1 in Waterton Canyon along with his pal Puff Puff.
Bobo was one of the many dogs hiking some of the Colorado Trail. Are his hiking shoes adorable or what??
Today’s early afternoon storm dropped some rain and even a bit of graupel (frozen snow similar to hail)
Some smooth trail
And some less than smooth trail
And a bit of boardwalk near Swan River, where I’d ultimately set up camp with Sing Song, Puff Puff, Squirrel, and Indy. The five of us have been keeping pace with each other for 5 continuous days now.
Tomorrow I head into Frisco for my first town stop on this thru-hike. I can’t wait to eat something other than what’s in my stupid food bag!
