  • Route: A zero day in Llanes
  • Distance: 0 kilometers (0 miles)
  • Cumulative Distance: 398.1. km

There isn’t much to say about my zero day other than I rested. A lot.

The heavy rain descended, just exactly as the weather forecast predicted. So I barely ventured outside during the day other than to get food and head over to the laundromat, which was virtually next door to my hotel.

My big adventure – hanging out at the laundromat

Then it rained some more, while I drank wine and soaked up the some fast hotel wi-fi.

Then it rain rained even more, but I was getting restless. So I wandered out into the rain to find a local sports store where I bought a replacement pair of hiking socks. The store didn’t have any Injinji toe socks like I wanted. But, I found a pair of ordinary athletic socks, and decided they would have to do. I still had 400+ kilometers left to hike, I absolutely needed a second pair of socks to replace the ones I’d lost.

Rainy Llanes

Then it was back to the hotel to lie about some more, while the rain continued to fall in heavy torrents. I don’t know if it amounted to an inch of rain, but it sure seemed like it. And I was glad to be indoors and protected from what I was sure was a lot of muddy, slippery Camino today.

In the end, I can’t even say whether Llanes was a good town or not. I spent almost the entire day indoors snug and warm. The only sightseeing picture I snapped was a quick one on my way out to dinner at an Italian restaurant. It was some sort of medieval castle tower, those I didn’t bother to explore it given the rain and how slippery the ground was around me.

And that, dear friends, was the sum of my zero day! Moreover, I will probably forever think of Llanes as the rainiest town in Spain- though that’s probably not an accurate assessment.
