Below is a list of all the items I took on the Camino de Santiago in September 2018. 

I found it incredibly helpful to look at other people’s Camino packing lists on the internet as I was developing and refining my own for this journey. To pay it forward, I’m putting my own list out there for future hikers.

Backpacking Items

  • Backpack – Gossamer Gear Marisposa 60L
  • Packliner/cover – Waterproof bag inside my pack
  • Sleeping Bag – Army poncho liner (instead of traditional sleeping bag)
  • Hiking Poles – Leki Jannu women’s poles 
  • Hydration – MiiR 850 ml metal water bottle + 1L Lifewater bottle
  • Headlamp/flashlight – Petzl eLite headlamp + Coleman Glowstick with LED flashlight

Hiking Clothing

  • Hiking Shirts – Under Armor technical t-shirts (x2)
  • Warm Layer – Icebreaker long sleeve merino wool hiking shirt  
  • Hiking Shorts – LL Bean lightweight Vista hiking shorts 
  • Hiking Pants – North Face 3/4 length capris
  • Sightseeing/Town Clothes – Columbia PFG white button down shirt &  LL Bean lightweight Vista trekking pants
  • Sleeping Clothes – Under Armor tank top & North Face running shorts
  • Bras – Patagonia barely sports bras (x2)
  • Underwear – Patagonia barely underwear (x4)

Outerwear

  • Jacket – North Face Thermoball hoodie 
  • Hats – lightweight beanie hat + brimmed hat for sun
  • Sunglasses – Suncloud poptown sunglasses
  • Gloves – Sporthill running gloves
  • Rain Gear – Patagonia Stretch Rainshadow jacket + Columbia rain pants
  • Hiking Umbrella – Gossamer Gear/Chrome travel umbrella

Footwear

  • Hiking Shoes – Altra Lone Peak trail running shoes
  • Socks – Injinji running socks (x2) + Smartwool (x1)
  • Gaiters – Dirty Girl gaiters
  • Sightseeing/casual shoes – Crocs Swiftwater sandals 

Personal Hygiene Items

  • Toiletry Bag – Eagle Creek Pack It Quick Trip bag
  • Towel – Sea to Summit TekTowel (small)
  • Dental Care – Toothbrush/toothpaste + floss
  • Shower items – Trial size shampoo, soap, razor
  • Haircare – Small comb + hairbands
  • Vision – Glasses, contact case, saline solution
  • Skin Care – 1oz Sawyer sunscreen + trial size lotion
  • Nail clippers
  • Shower/Laundry Bag – Mesh bag with handles

Electronics

  • Phone/camera – iPhone 7 + Lifeproof FRE waterproof case
  • Apps/Maps – Wise Pilgrim Frances, Wise Pilgrim Finisterre, WhatsApp
  • Earbuds – AirPods (stored in waterproof bag)
  • Watch – Garmin Fenix 3
  • E-reader/device for blogging – iPad mini
  • 220V adapter – Try to get one for a USBs if possible 
  • Charging cables –  iPhone/iPad/Airpod + Garmin

Miscellaneous Items

  • Organization for pack – Granite Gear Air Zipsacks + ziplock baggies
  • First Aid Kit – stocked with bandaids, Compeed blister packs, etc.
  • Body glide – mini size
  • Laundry items – plastic clothespins (x5), safety pins, mesh bag
  • Shopping Bag/Purse – Chico sling bag
  • Personal items – Passport/ID, ATM/Credit card, Euros 
  • Writing – Pen + mini-notebook
  • Credencial – Pilgrim passport to get stamped along the Camino

Final Thoughts

Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect packing list for the Camino. Each person’s gear setup is unique to them and their needs. It will vary depending on your route, the season you hike, your gender, your experience level, personal preferences, etc. Buen Camino!
